Australia Zoo is home to many spectacular bird species, including the helmeted guineafowl. Take a stroll through Bindi’s Island for your chance to see them up close and personal!

Guineafowl are widespread throughout much of Africa and inhabit bush, forests and grasslands. They are omnivores and will spend the daylight hours foraging for grubs, insects, small reptiles, seeds, grasses and other native vegetation! As a popular domestic pet, they are known to be an effective tick and parasite eater, eliminating these pests from their foraging range.

These birds are highly monogamous and will mate for life! The female will lay up to 20 eggs that will incubate for around 28 days! The fledgling process will be guided by both parents and lasts around 10 weeks.

Guineafowl are highly domesticated and adaptable to their environment. Woo-hoo!
