Adopt I Would like to adopt an animal

Say hello to our talking sulphur-crested cockatoos, right here at Australia Zoo. For your chance to get up close and personal with these cheeky cockatoos, visit our Outback Station. These birds just LOVE meeting our Zoo guests!

These large parrots are white in colour and have a distinct yellow crest and black beak. They are found throughout much of the north, east and southern regions of Australia, including Tasmania.

Sulphur-crested cockatoos are herbivorous, so their diet consists of fruits, grasses, seeds and nuts! They have adapted to life in suburbia and live within close range of humans. These gorgeous cockatoos are very intelligent, resourceful and often learn to repeat words after humans.

Amazingly, sulphur-crested cockatoos will mate for life and can live for over 80 years. Crikey! The wild population of sulphur-crested cockatoos is very healthy and they are a species of least concern.
